What to Know About Florida’s Homestead Exemption

This is an important reminder for everyone who purchased a home in Florida in 2019.

If you or anyone you know purchased real estate in 2019 in Florida, this is your reminder that you have until March 2 to file for your Homestead Exemption. It's a property tax savings that you're entitled to on your principal residence. You can file this online—I've put those links in an email that you've already received if you're one of our clients.

Here are the links you can check out for more information in each of our Tampa Bay Area counties:

One more thing: If you owned another principal residence in Florida in the past two years, you're entitled to transfer tax equity to the new property, which for some of our clients amounts to a big saving. This happens automatically in some counties but not in others.

If you're not sure what this means, or if it applies to you, feel free to email me at [email protected], or you can schedule a call with me here. We’re always here to answer questions for our clients and friends!
